The laboratory of  Physics and Engineering of  Low Temperatures was founded at the Yerevan Institute of  Physics in 1967 to provide cryogenic experiments on the Yerevan Ring Accelerator. Mr. R.T. Mina, Master in Mathematics and Physics Sciences and graduate of Moscow Institute of  Physics and Technologies, was the first Director Executive of the Laboratory. He was an apprentice of  P.L. Kapitza and M.S. Khaikin. In the Laboratory, a few scientific-experimental groups were working headed by leading scientists in different times. Initially, the scientific researches were carried out basically to create the liquid hydrogen and liquid deuterium targets. R.T. Mina and  K.Sh.Agababyan., headed these works. Moreover, the works on theoretical and experimental researches of  Fermi surfaces for various metals were carried out jointly with the IFP (Moscow). In the beginning of experiments on the Electron Accelerator at YerPhI there were set the experiments using liquid hydrogen and deuterium targets based on externally cooled liquid helium. This approach has been applied worldwide on many Accelerators later. Researches on creating the PPT (proton-polarized target) headed by R.T. Mina, have stimulated mastering in area of Low and Super-low Temperatures using Helium-3. Experiment_holl Laboratory Staff, in its current status, has been formed in 1980 by merging scientific laboratory and Production Department i.e. cryogenic station (formed in 1994). Thus the two questions have been resolved at once: manufacturing and consuming of cryogenic products have been concentrated in one department and began coordinated by one Manager. Within this period, adsorbtive refrigerators on Helium-3 and Helium-4 vapors, along with dilution refrigerators with adsorbtive preliminary stage,  were created. The works resulted in finding the unique technological solutions that were copyrighted later.
Another direction of Laboratory's activities headed by  N.M. Dobrovolski, MS in Physics, were the researches of overheated superconducting granules as a Detecting environment. The results of these researches enabled to study the physical aspects of overheated superconducting state in micron-sized granules and demonstrated availability of using superconducting granules for building the detectors of elementary particles. Researches on Josephson environment in HTSC were another direction. As a result, it was proved that using the HTSC with Josephson environment for building magnetometers sensible as SQUID magnetometers, is surely possible. Mr. N.M. Dobrovolski, MS in Physics and Mathematics, has headed the Laboratory after R.T. Mina died in 1992. The Laboratory headed by Mr. Dobrovolski keeps realizing its scientific activities despite the difficulties of post-soviet period. Currently, the Laboratory staff is engaged in theoretical and experimental researches in area of Accelerator beam bunches headed by Mr. S.G. Arutunian, DS in Physics and Mathematics.
Laboratory possesses firm and serious production capacities including nitrogen-oxygen and helium manufacturing workshops, and currently is a dominant manufacturer of cryogenic agents in Republic of Armenia. Availability of such production capacities allows proceeding in scientific researches with Helium-3 and Helium-4.
The Laboratory staff includes one Doctor of Sciences and three Masters of Sciences degrees bearers. Mechanical workshop, welding support and experimental premises are available.
