Applied Physics Researches Division includes groups specialized on solid state radiation physics, optical spectroscopy, biophysics, accelerator diagnostics and vacuum/welding technologies.
Currently the material science is at high level at the APRD. One of the main focuses of the division is the study of the influence of radiation (particularly of the fast electron beams) on the physical, optical and biological properties of materials (laser single crystals, semiconductors, ceramics, natural minerals, etc.). Basic research is carried out in the field of fundamental phenomena in wide-gap materials and their application prospects (scintillation detectors, dosimeters, luminescent tubes and displays, materials for nuclear energetics, etc.). Other perspective directions are development of Radiation Resistant Thermoregulating Coatings for space vehicles and Vibrating Wire Technology in accelerator physics, radio-cryobiology and radioecology.
Recently division groups activities included various international and local collaborations with institutions like University of Tartu (Tartu, Estonia), Lebedev Physics Institute (Moscow, Russia), DESY (Hamburg, Germany), HTM-Reetz GmbH (Berlin, Germany), Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, (Ulsan, Korea), CANDLE SRI (Yerevan, Armenia), etc..
